May He Trek Among The Stars

Among the multitude of things I have done to make money or to gain knowledge, I am an actor (and I sing a bit sometimes).  I have also been involved in live music performances in non-performance roles.  Because of those things and my generally gregarious nature, I have met and spoken with and otherwise interacted with some pretty damn famous folk.

In my experience, those famous folk were folk.  Not one of them was to the best of my observation, perfect. (although some were really nice)  Mostly, they were just folk.  They were famous for doing what they were paid to do.

So I don't kneejerk to any attitude towards them.  It is as true of actors and musicians whose skills I don't especially appreciate as it is of those that I have gone out of my way to enjoy their skills.

I don't lie to myself and pretend that they are family or close friends whether I like their performance skills or not.  I would not say that I don't care at all about them but, unless they truly are known to me as friends, such care as I feel is pretty muted.

All of that that to say that hearing of the demise of Sir Patrick Stewart hit me a little differently than the death of most famous folk I don't actually know.

Fair Winds & Following Seas Sir Patrick.  I think the world was a little better with you in it.
